9/5-9/6

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!

As we get back into the swing of things, in class this week your child will be continuing their study of what it means to have a great heart literally. We are reading the book titled The Circulatory Story which talks about how our heart functions and how our blood travels throughout the body. In this book, figurative language will be introduced through many similes and metaphors! We are starting to create a figurative language book displaying all of the similes and metaphors in the book and how they show us what a great heart looks like.

In Social Studies this week, we will be continuing to learn about important text features and timelines. Students are working within Google Classroom to complete an assignment in class.

The entire 4th grade will be starting a new project that will be completed on the 2 hour delay days. This project is inspiring our students to think outside the box and be innovative thinkers. Be sure to ask your child about our project!

Homework:

Reading 20 minutes a night.

  • New reading logs came out today! I saw that many students had trouble filling out the correct date for their reading so I have filled in the dates for them. On the weekends, I am requiring them to record their reading either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. If they want to read every day, please do not let this stop them! I only require them to record one of the days but they should feel free to read whenever they would like:)
Fluency Practice
  • This is the second fluency practice I have assigned. This is to be practiced each night and initialed by the listener. There are many important fluency aspects they are practicing when they are reading the text given. I would like all listeners to encourage the reader to add expression, pause when they have reached the end of a sentence, and discuss what they read after completing the passage. All of these skills will help your child become a better reader!
No Social Studies homework was assigned this week.
