Homework:

All homework will be updated in your child's agenda. Please refer to that in order to see what is required to be completed each night.

I will not be requiring a reading log to be signed each night for the remainder of the year. All students will be responsible for setting time aside each night to read. They will need to complete a novel that fits in their current lexile level (I will give this to all students) and then they may read whatever they would like. Their book chosen within their lexile level will be used for their quarter 3 project.

English Language Arts & Social Studies

In quarter 3, we will be crossing our curriculum with social studies content! The quarter, we will be learning about the American Revolution from the British and Colonists perspective. We will be working through multiple texts to answer the following essential question: Why is it important to understand all sides of a story? We will be learning about all of the major events leading up to the American Revolution, different battles during the Revolution, and what effects the revolution had on the countries of Great Britain and America.

Texts we will be diving into:
    1. George Vs. George by Rosalyn Schanzer
    2. Colonial Voices: Hear them Speak by Kay Winters
    3. The Scarlet Stockings Spy by Trinka Hakes Noble
    4. Article titled "Massacre in King Street" by Mark Clemens
    5. Article titled "Detested Tea" by Andrew Matthews
    6. Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen
In social studies, we will continue learning about the geographical location of the 13 colonies, what challenges the colonists faced, and other extensions of the American Revolution that are not covered during our ELA class time.

    Math-

Module 3: Area and Perimeter, Multi-digit Multiplication and Division

Module 3 was a long one! We covered many topics including prime and composite numbers, multiplication of multi-digit numbers, division of multi-digit numbers, multiplication and division word problems, area, and perimeter. We will be finishing up our study of division during this first week of January and then we will be taking our final assessment the second week of January. This assessment will touch on all topics covered so students can show mastery of what they have learned.

    Module 4: Geometry

After we take our final assessment of Module 3, we will be moving on to our 4th module this year. Within this module, students will:

    1. be able to draw and label points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles, as well as describe the relationships between them
    2. construct, recognize, and define geometric objects
    3.  classify figures and solve problems
    4.  learn how to create and measure angles, as well as how to create and solve equations to find unknown angle measures
    5. recognize specific attributes present in two-dimensional figures to help classify them
Students will be given a protractor during this module in order to help them measure angles accurately. These protractors will need to travel from school to home each night, then back to school each day once they have been distributed.

    Science- Life Science

During our study of Life Science, we will be working with fossils, discovering how fossils are made, and what fossils tell us about the objects located in specific locations. We will be discussing habitats and how these effect the types of fossils we see in different locations. Students will be participating in Mystery Science lessons to help build their knowledge of the world around them and the clues that have been left behind:)
