Week 3

We had a great start to our short week! In class today, I am starting to gauge how much students have learned previously in the area of timelines. We will continue studying how to make a proper timeline in Social Studies. Stay tuned for pictures of completed timelines!

In Language Arts, we are continuing our exploration of a "painted paragraph." As a class we have written the outline of how Helen Keller showed great heart and now we are practicing our typing skills by creating a google doc of the paragraph. The link listed below is the source we used in order to construct our paragraph. We are including quotations, making sure to focus on proper punctuation within our paragraph.
Helen Keller Biography

We will also be starting to define the literal meaning of the word heart by studying the circulatory system through specific literature. Watch for pictures on Class Dojo showing what fun activities we will be participating in!

Announcements:

  • Forms: If you have not turned in your medical form, registration card, or assignment notebook agreement, please complete those online or send in a paper copy with your child.
  • Picture Day- Wednesday, August 30
  • NO SCHOOL FRIDAY (8/31) or MONDAY (9/4)

THANKS TO THOSE WHO HAVE SIGNED UP AND ARE ACTIVELY USING CLASS DOJO!
I have had many responses to pictures I have posted of students and many parents using dojo as a means to ask questions or express concerns. I feel so far this experience has been a very positive one. While on class dojo, make sure you are checking out how your child is earning points each day! You can access this through each student story board.

Homework this week for ELA and SS:
Reading 20 minutes a night

  • In order for students to get their dojo point for having their homework completed, they must ask a parent to initial their reading logs nightly. We have discussed as a class that it is each students responsibility to get this done and not something that should be blamed on another if they come with their reading log incomplete.
Fluency Practice:
  • Each night, each student must practice reading a word or phrase given. This is to be read aloud to an adult. The point of this exercise is to practice expression, pauses, and accurate word choice when reading. Each student will receive the directions as well as the phrase Tuesday, August 29th.
Social Studies
Complete the google form on Google Classroom. (Burre's homeroom- Tuesday; Stemm's homeroom- Thursday)
  • This assignment will be started in class but may need to be completed for homework. No student should need assistance with this assignment. If they have questions, please feel free to contact me via email or through class dojo.
