Module 2 Extreme Settings

Language Arts/Reading

As we continue through Module 2, students will be using their knowledge of how setting affects characters actions by understanding extreme settings. We will begin working with two new books titled Mountains and SAS Survival Handbook: The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Anywhere. Our overall goal this week is to understand what makes a mountainous environment extreme. We will be focusing on the following questions to develop their understanding:

  • What do you notice and wonder about the two books we are beginning to study?
  • What is happening in Mountains?
  • What does a deeper exploration of the main ideas and details reveal in Mountains?

Social Studies

We are continuing our study of the prehistoric Indian groups who first showed up in Ohio. Each student was placed in a group and randomly given a group of Indians to study. They will be working together to create a poster displaying all essential information we need to know about that group of Indians. These posters will be due November 10th.

Homework:

  1. Reading 20 minutes a night- 1 night of the week they may choose to read their SS Newspaper but the rest should be reading a book of choice unless instructed to do Imagine Learning.
  2. Fluency Practice- Due Friday
