Fall Picture Day This Week!

  • Thursday, August 29th: PTO Welcome Back Party from 6pm-8pm! 
  • Friday, August 30th: NO SCHOOL; Teacher Professional Development Day
  • Monday, September 2: NO SCHOOL- Labor Day
  • Wednesday, September 11- 2 hour delay


Fall Picture Day: Wednesday, August 28th! 

Order forms went home last week for pictures. You may order online ahead of time or send your child with the picture order form on the day of. If you have any questions, please reach out via email or Class Dojo:) 

Math: 

Objectives this week: 
  • Name numbers within 1 million by building understanding of the place value chart and placement of commas for naming base thousand units. 
  • Read and write multi-digit numbers using base ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. 

ELA: 

Objectives this week: 
  • We will be answering the question, "How does someone show great heart, figuratively?"
  • Understanding quotations as well as quotation punctuation. 
  • We will be gaining a deeper understanding of the definition of a figurative and a literal heart. 
  • Diving into different biographies of Anne Frank, Clara Barton, and Helen Keller to understand how they showed great heart in their specific situations. 

Homework:

  • Reading: Independent reading 20 minutes each night
    • Remember, it is your child's responsibility to ask you to initial the reading log as well as the agenda each day.

  • Math: Homework will be given if students show full understanding of the concept. We will be doing practice problems during class that resembles the homework so they have appropriate support in completing their homework. Homework has the potential to change after gauging student understanding of the concept.

Announcements:  Wednesday, August 29th: PICTURE DAY Friday, August 31: No School- Teacher in-service day Monday, September 3: No School- Have a great Labor Day:)   What we are learning during week 2:  ELA You should have received a parent letter explaining Wit and Wisdom. This is a program that pushes students in their fluency, vocabulary, and writing skills all within a daily 90-minute session. This week we will be diving into Lessons 1-4 which will introduce the idea of literal language versus figurative language. In reading, students have set their AR goals. Be sure to ask them what personal goal they set and the steps they developed in order to be successful. It was great seeing where they want to go over the next 9 weeks. In writing, we will be learning the steps to write a "painted" paragraph. This week we will be starting a new book titled Love That Dog.  This book introduces what it means to have a great heart, figuratively, through poetry! Throughout our study of Love That Dog,  we will also be working with other poems such as "The Red Wheelbarrow", "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", "The Tiger", "The Pasture", and much more. Wear colors that help you feel focused and peaceful. Wednesday, 1/10:  School Spirit Day! Wear your Pickerington Purple as you meet with your Tiger Team! Thursday, 1/11:  Book Character Dress Up Day! Who is your favorite character? We will also have mystery readers today. Friday, 1/12:  Wear a shirt or jersey of your favorite musician or athlete.
