Literal Heart

Announcements:

Tuesday, September 18th: Bus Fire Drill is rescheduled for today pending weather conditions.
Friday, September 21st: Students will participate in Hands-only CPR!

Homework:

  • Reading 20 minutes each night.
  • If E&I activities were not finished, all students will be responsible for completing these assignments over the weekend. Each child will be given notice on Friday what assignments they are missing and they will be given extra copies if needed.

ELA:

This week we will be continuing our study of the literal great heart. We have been focusing on identifying main ideas and details in the pages of our book, The Circulatory Story. We have also been identifying the figurative language (similes and metaphors) within the book. Each student will complete their figurative language booklet this week explaining how the similes or metaphors have helped them understand the text.

Writing:

This week we will continue to work on constructing a "painted paragraph." Within a painted paragraph, students have to identify the main idea, two details that support the main idea, and proof through quotations to prove their main idea. Last week we completed a "painted paragraph" on the figurative great heart and this week we will be completing a "painted paragraph" on the literal great heart.

Social Studies:

Human Features vs. Natural Features

During social studies this week, students will be learning about natural features on earth like mountains, lakes, and forests. They will also be learning how natural features differ from Human-made features, which are things like parks, cities, and neighborhoods. By the end of the lesson, each child should be able to accurately identify what items are human-made features and which items are natural features.
