Quarter 3 Coming To An End.

Announcements:

Wednesday, March 7th: 2 Hour Delay

Thursday, March 8th: Conferences 4:15-8:15

  • For this set of conferences, we wanted the students to show their progress and discuss with you areas they feel they are proud of and which areas of learning in which they want to get better. We will be working during our E&I period to develop a slideshow to share with you when finished. Mrs. Burre and I feel this is a great way to give students the power to take control of their own education and really reflect on their progress this year.

  • KISS Luncheon- Please  RSVP with the form pictured to let the cafeteria know how many are planning to attend.
  • Book Fair opens- After our KISS Luncheon, feel free to check out or purchase our Book Fair items in the Art room. You may purchase that day if you would like or we will be attending the book fair as a class

ELA: Woods Runner & Greek Mythology

In ELA we have been developing our position as to whether the 13 Colonies were right to fight for independence from England during the American Revolution or if they were not right. Each child was required to pick a side and write an opinion essay on why their position was right. We will be finishing these essays this week in class. Below are some pictures of activities we have done in class to help develop our stance on the topic.

Next 2 weeks:
After we finish our essays in class, we will be reading another text by Gary Paulsen titled Woods Runner. We will be participating in small group Literature Circles after each section of the book is completed. I will also be giving some background knowledge of Greek Mythology to get ready for the last module in ELA. We will be reading multiple Greek Myths and meeting some key characters. Through these stories we will be working on key skills that will be needed on the upcoming state tests such as vocabulary, using context clues, finding evidence to support answers, and figurative language.

Social Studies:

We will be continuing our study fo the three branches of government. Each student was paired up with another classmate to create a display sharing information about each branch of government. We will be finishing up our displays this week as well as presenting them to the class. Be sure to look for these displays around the classroom and hallways as you attend our KISS luncheons! Below is the graphic organizer students filled out while collecting information about the three branches of government. We watched a video on Ohio As America, our online textbook, to help reinforce this material.
