11/6-11/10

ELA/Reading

As we continue through Module 2, students will be using their knowledge of how setting affects characters actions by understanding extreme settings. We will continue working with two new books titled Mountains and SAS Survival Handbook: The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Anywhere. Our overall goal this week is to understand what makes a mountainous environment extreme. We will need this knowledge so we can further understand what types of challenges Brian, our main character in Hatchet, faces in the story. We will be starting Hatchet on Thursday!

Our focusing questions this week are as follows:
  • What does a deeper exploration of the main ideas and details reveal in Mountains?
  • What makes a mountainous environment extreme?
  • How does setting influence character and plot development?

Social Studies

This week we will be finishing our posters on the different Ancient Indian groups. Groups will be presenting the information they found for each group. While students are listening to the different presentations, they will be taking notes on the different groups to build an informational resource to keep in their data binders. Stay tuned for pictures of the final products!

4th Grade Campfire

Last week we had our last campfire with Mrs. Lewis in the library. When the students entered the library, Mrs. Lewis set the scene of a night of camping. We had spooky music playing and got to sit around a campfire and listen to a scary story. It was a great time for all involved and really brought out the student's love of reading.

Calamity Day Make-Up Plan
As we approach the winter months, please be aware of our Calamity Day Make-up plan:
  • Day 1 to be made up on February 19th (Presidents’ Day)
  • Days 2-4 to be made up through Blizzard Bags
  • Days 5-10 Students and Certified Staff excused from attendance
  • Blizzard bags are intended to provide our students with meaningful activities and practice during a day that has been determined to be unsafe for students/staff to be in school. Staff/students will make-up the first day missed on February 19, 2018 (provided we have been closed prior to that date) and then create blizzard bags for missed days 2, 3 and 4.
