11/13-11/17

ELA/Reading

As we continue through Module 2, students will continue reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. In this novel, the main character, Brian, is flying from New York to Canada to visit his father when something goes terribly wrong. The pilot has a massive heart attack and Brian is left to fly the plane himself. He eventually runs out of fuel and lands the plane. Unable to get a hold of anyone prior to his crash landing, Brian is alive but needs to survive until he is able to find help.

Our focusing questions this week are as follows:
  • What does a deeper exploration of Brian's thoughts and actions reveal about his ability to adapt and survive?
  • What do Brian's thoughts and actions reveal about Brian in chapters 6-11 of Hatchet?
  • What does a deeper exploration of Brian's thoughts and actions in chapters 8, 9, and 10 reveal about how Brian is learning and changing in the wilderness?

Social Studies

This week students will be presenting their posters on the different Ancient Indian groups. While students are listening to the different presentations, they will be taking notes on the different groups to build an informational resource to keep in their data binders. Stay tuned for pictures of the final products!

Outdoor Recess Reminders

Remember with Ohio Weather being variable to remind your child to be prepared to be outside for recess. If the weather is deemed appropriate for outside recess, students will be outside even if it is chilly or cold out.

Remember if your family needs support over the holidays or could use winter hats, gloves, or you have other needs to contact Mrs. Lowe our school counselor. She has contacts and can help.

*Congratulations to Aiden M for earning the P.R.O.U.D. award. He will be recognized on Wednesday at the PTO meeting.
